Competences:
• knowledge and understanding of the development and nature of mediation as a form of alternative, informal, voluntary and confidential procedure for conflict resolution; interpersonal and group interactions; nature and essence of conflicts; ways of solving conflicts within a legal framework; specific features of mediation in comparison with legal practices and other alternative methods for conflict resolution; procedures for the practical implementation of mediation; stages, approaches, means and instruments for successful mediation; the role of the mediator; different models and major specific domains for the implementation of mediation procedures;
• skills in defining mediation as a process of solving different types of conflicts and its distinction from other procedures with similar purposes; identifying and analyzing conflicts, selecting appropriate interventions for conflict solution; developing a personal approach to successful mediation;
• skills for practical implementation of mediation procedures in specific realms of public and personal life; successful and adequate selection of means, instruments, and styles of conflict resolution in different fields and cases.
The program is developed in compliance with the Mediation Act in Bulgaria and with European standards.
Admission requirements: completed undergraduate education.
Course requirements: 120 hours of classroom instruction, final exam.
