irinaIrina Alexieva / Executive Director

Irina Alexieva has over 20 years of professional experience in international development, NGO work, media, business and political affairs. Throughout her outstanding career she has been focusing her expertise in the MENA region, post Soviet space and Western Balkans. Her interests are in the field of leadership development, women empowerment, youth and citizen participation, political parties trainings. She is the Executive Director of the Bulgarian School of Politics “Dimitry Panitza”, an NGO providing leadership training to political and civic leaders, which belongs to the network of Schools of Political Studies of the Council of Europe. Currently Irina is a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the World Forum for Democracy, an annual gathering of the Council of Europe.

Before to join an NGO sector she was one of the best TV and radio journalists in Bulgaria, anchoring her own TV show interviewing some of the most influential leaders in the global political and economic scene, among them Nobel laureates, heads of global companies and financial institutions. She is the author of many documentaries and one of the most awarded journalists in the country. Ms. Alexieva has a diploma for Strategic Management for Leaders of NGO at Harvard Kennedy School.

She has a PhD in Public Communications and Information Studies from the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. Her PhD thesis is on Communicating Climate Change. She also has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the American University in Bulgaria and a MA in Economics from the University of National and World Economy. Irina specialized in journalism in Columbia, Missouri University in the U.S. and studied the development of civic and political dialogue in Southeast Europe and the former Soviet Union in Norway.

RumiRumiana Grozeva / Acting Executive Director, Financial Director
Rumiana Grozeva has Master’s degrees in Finance, Philosophy and History from the Sofia University “Sv. Kliment Ohridski” and the University of National and World Economy. Between 1992 and 1999 she worked at the Company clients and credits Department of the Biohim Bank. From 2000 to 2002 Rumiana was an accountant at the Political Academy of Central and South-East Europe. Since 2003 she has been an accountant at the Bulgarian School of Policy.

velizarVelizar Georgiev / Administrative Director
Velizar Georgiev finished high school with intensive learning of French and English in 2007. The same year he enrolled International Economic Relations. After that he graduated in Finance at the University of National and World Economy. Velizar has lots of sports activities and participated in numerous volleyball competitions at national level. He has also taken part in many cultural events in Germany, Turkey, Italy and Austria. He likes traveling and meeting different cultures.

Martina Kostova/ Program Coordinator

Martina Kostova is project coordinator at Bulgarian School of Politics "Dimitry Panitza". Six years worked as a journalist at BTV . Three years she was an executive producer of the current affair program "Seismograph" . She was a reporter in the fields "Ecology ", "Healthcare ", "Education" "Politics " . Martina was an editor of the morning news broadcasts and associate producer of the central news of BTV as well. She worked as a producer of the morning show at Nova TV "Hello Bulgaria" and an editor of the political talk show "Direct Democracy" on TV 7 . Martina has a Bachelor's degree in PR from the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski "and a Master's degree in marketing from the University of National and World Economy.

sashoAlexander Ilchev / Program Coordinator, Environmental projects

Alexander Ilchev has a Batchelor’s degree in Environmental and Resource Management from the Brandenburg Technical University of Cottbus, Germany and a Master’s degree in Sustainable Resource Management from the Technical University in Munich. His professional interests are in the field of sustainable development, energy efficiency and climate change. He speaks English and German.
