“Bulgaria has a single chance for a change and it is now, not in the future. It is education.” This is what the philanthropist Elvin Guri said to the participants in the National Program “Managing skills”. He was a special guest in the rubric “30 minutes in the company of…” Guri and his wife Ralica Again support quite a few educational initiatives and institutions, among which the American University in Bulgaria, Junior Achievement Bulgaria and “Teach for all”. He was a guest, as part of the efforts of the Bulgarian School of Politics to support philanthropy in Bulgaria.
Another main accent during the second day of the program was policy on local level. The day started with a lecture by Dr. Antony Gulubov, who is a political scientists and the sociologist Zhivko Georgiev. In their talks they developed the thesis, that politics should search for what unites and to turn its back to confrontations on both local and national level. After that, the economist from the Institute of Market Economy – Dessislava Nikolova presented the research “Regional Profiles: Development Indicators 2013”. The training continued with a simulation of the radio program “The week”. Participants debated on the topic “For and against the abolition of the smoking ban in public places” – moderator was the journalist Kiril Valchev from Darik Radio.
