The analysis developed under the project ” European Values and Cultural Identity of Young People from Northwestern Bulgaria” shows that young people in the region combine a strong regional identity with a high level of awareness and partial acceptance of European values. Historical memory and pride in the past stand out as a key factor for cultural resilience, with significant historical events being associated with universal principles such as freedom, dignity and justice.
The study finds that local values such as respect for traditions, hard work, attachment to family and hospitality remain strongly expressed and are often manifested through participation in cultural festivals, mutual aid and support for the community. The analysis reveals clear similarities between local and European values in terms of solidarity, care for the community and work ethic, as well as differences related to individualism, universal tolerance and active civic participation.
The project “European Values and Cultural Identity of Young People from Northwestern Bulgaria” aims to raise awareness among young people about the rights and values of the European Union by connecting them with the cultural traditions, history and identity of which they are proud.
The analysis can be seen here.
The project is implemented by the Bulgarian School of Politics “Dimitry Panitza” in partnership with the Union of Young Writers and is funded by PROTEUS project of the Transatlantic Foundation, co-funded by the European Union.
